Team Stacks of Snacks
Story
Matthew Marenko, Terry Katis, Alex Ivory and myself are getting together in Team Stacks of Snacks, and joining another another team of 4 to raise money and awareness for Lifeline and the critical role they play in preventing suicide. My team is aiming to raise $12,500 towards our event goal of $25,000.
We will be riding our pushbikes 1,000km in a relay team of 4 from Canberra to Melbourne, with the lofty goal of completing the ride in under, 40 hours. We will be on the go around the clock, just like Lifeline are with their support network, from 8am Friday the 4th of October until hopefully just before midnight on Saturday the 5th of October.
This will be the first ever Riding 4 Life event but we are hoping it will be the first of many. This event has us touring the major rural centres throughout Victoria and southern NSW. Also passing through Wagga Wagga, Albury, Yarrawonga, Cobram, Echuca, Bendigo, Ballarat and finishing at the Lifeline Melbourne office.
Lifeline provides 24 hour access to suicide prevention and crisis support services through one national number - 13 11 14. Trained telephone crisis supporters answer over 500,000 calls each year from Australians needing crisis support.
Sadly, suicide remains the leading cause of death for Men under the age of 44 and Women under the age of 34 in Australia (ABS 2010). Lifeline’s vision is for an ‘Australia free of suicide’.
